Uruguay, or the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, is a country that belongs to the south-american continent, with more than 4 million habitants and that borders countries such as Brazil, Argentina, as well as the Atlantic Ocean.
Gaining its independence in the 19th century, the capital of the country is Montevideo. An enchanting country, Uruguay is a fairly small country by south-american standards, covering a space of only 176,200 kilometres squared, making it the second smallest country on the continent.
With one of the highest education indices on the continent, they say the name Uruguay derives from the indigenous Guarani people, but there are also many other theories, many of which are centred upon the Rio de la Plata, a great source of wealth for the country.
With the Atlantic Ocean and the Rio de la Plata bathing the country, there are more than 1000km of coastline, offering some incredible beaches with crystal clear waters, white sand, a diverse set of outdoor activities and a large number of holiday accommodations, with planty of hotels, chalets, holiday apartments and holiday homes to choose from.
